Let Someone Else Do the Driving with Pods Storage

I have helped move friends a thousand times, and I cannot tell you how I wished there was something like pods storage back then. Most of those moves were in college or graduate school when we were poor students. Pizza and cheap beer were the payment for filling the moving truck. The friend was often not packed, due to procrastination and perhaps a party the night prior. We would load everything in the truck, then have to drive that thing down the road. I am still flabbergasted by the fact that these companies let regular people with regular drivers licenses drive these HUGE trucks down the road without any training. You hear everything crash down in the back as soon as that truck hits the road, and you know your friend wishes she would have let someone else drive. Who knew you should not just put the TV on a box stacked high on that overstuffed chair? If only there was some kind of pods storage, so you would not have to worry about driving all this stuff around and breaking it.

I am a grown up now and have paid someone else to move me every time I have moved the last ten years. It is expensive, though, and you have to have your act together. You can save some money by having everything packed when the movers get there, or pay more and have them do everything. It is a whirlwind of chaos, no matter what you choose. The movers will start wrapping things up and packing them together, if they see anything not packed. After my first professional move, I found a very lightweight, but HUGE box, filled with various shoes that had all been individually wrapped with an enormous amount of paper. My movers charged for every box, roll of tape and swath of paper used. Again, I wish I would have known about pods storage as an option.

I live in a big city and have been seeing these pods storage boxes all over the last 5 years or so.I guessed it was mainly students who did not want to pimp out their friends services to help them drive a truck around. When some friends of ours decided to move to California, we learned all about pods storage. In exchange for dinner and wine, we graced them with our packing skills for an entire afternoon. The pods storage unit was curbside just outside their building, so we put most of the things we packed directly into it. The storage unit was outside their apartment for a week, so they were able to slowly take thing downstairs and get them organized in the thing. It was a very secure cube, with a heavy frame and a huge lock. You would have to have some heavy machinery to run away with that thing. Our friends hired some people to move the heavy furniture and any leftover heavy boxes into the pods storage thing. The pods storage company put the unit on a truck and away it went to the West Coast. Our friends did not have to contend with a chaotic day of movers at their apartment, and they did not have to learn how to drive a huge truck. See, pods storage is for grown ups too. You might still have to spring for beer for your friends.
